Temporary Admission To Canada
There are several different programs offered by the Canadian Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration to individuals who wish to live in Canada for a temporary period of time. Each program has special requirements and offers individuals specific privileges.
The programs
for temporary admission to Canada are as follows:
- Temporary Resident Visa (also known as a ‘Visitor`s Visa’)
- Work Permit
- Student Permit
- Temporary Resident Permit (also known as a ‘Minister`s Permit’)
Prospective visitors must apply for temporary admission to Canada under the above mentioned categories through the Canadian Visa Mission of the country of their nationality or permanent residence. If an individual is residing in a country other than that of his nationality or permanent residence, he or she can apply for the temporary admission to Canada through such a country`s Canadian Visa Mission only if his or her stay in there has been legal and at least 12 months in duration.
Citizens of certain countries of the world are exempt from obtaining entry visa to Canada through Canadian overseas Visa Missions and can seek admission to Canada at the port of their entry.
Canadian
Immigration Officials at either the port of entry or at the Canadian Visa Missions overseas have the right to exercise their discretion when reviewing your application for temporary admission to Canada. The applicant must provide the Canadian Visa Mission or Immigration Official with extensive information and details explaining the purpose of the trip and the applicant`s establishment in the country of residence including his or her family composition, employment, financial background, etc.
