Foreign Graduates

If applying under this category, there are two main requirements that the applicant must take into consideration: work experience and education.

The graduate must have one year of full-time work experience in Canada after graduation and this experience must be gained within the two years immediately preceding the application date.

In order to be eligible to work in Canada after graduation, the graduate can apply for the Post-Graduation Work Permit which may be valid for as long as three years. The work experience later gained must be within the capacity of a managerial or professional capacity, or in technical and skilled trades.

Only work experience gained after graduation is considered in the assessment of the application.

Foreign graduate applicants must have graduated from either a full-time Canadian post-secondary educational program of at least two years in length, or, a one-year Master’s program with an additional year of education obtained in Canada before admission to the Master’s program. Both exhibit a total of two years (four semesters) of Canadian post-secondary education.  Courses must be taught by a private or pubic post-secondary educational institution such as a college or university, or, by private CEGEPs (this is only applicable in the province of Quebec).

It is important to note that English- or French-as-a-second-language courses do not count toward education requirements.
