Immigrate to Canada: Skilled Workers and Professionals.

The Skilled Worker applicant category allows individuals to be selected for permanent residency upon the merit of their ability to become economically independent or established in Canada. 

In order to be eligible for this category, you must fit one of the following three criterion:
  • have an offer of arranged employment in Canada, or
  • have been living in Canada legally for at least one year as either a temporary foreign worker or international student, or
  • have at least one year of experience as a skilled worker in one of the acknowledged occupations;
Once eligible, you must also ensure that you meet the requirements Skilled Worker applications. To do this, you must have at least one year of full-time paid work experience of the equivalent in part-time employment. This work experience must be one from the list of accepted occupations. Lastly, this year of experience needs to have been acquired within the ten years preceding the date of the application.

If you meet the said requirements as well, you can begin counting your points. In this process, you are evaluated by six selection factors that each have a certain amount of points to credit you. A single applicant must score at least 67 points to be eligible.

The Canadian Immigration selection factors are as follows
:
  1. Education (maximum points available- 25 points) This section takes into account your secondary and post-secondary diplomas.
  2. Language Proficiency (maximum points available- 24) This section evaluates your ability to speak, listen, read and write in French and/or English.
  3. Experience (maximum points available- 21) You will be granted points based on the amount of years you have of paid work experience in a listed occupation.
  4. Age (maximum points available- 10) Both 54 years or older and 16 years or younger have a value of 0 points.
  5. Arranged employment in Canada (maximum points available- 10) This section considers all arranged employment offers prior to or contingent on application to Canada as a permanent resident.
  6. Adaptability (maximum points available- 10) This section evaluates your as well as your dependents’ ability to adapt in Canada. Your and your spouse’s or common-law partner’s education level, previous work and study in Canada as well as any other relatives you may have in the country will all be considered for points.
